5th-8th Grade Band
Hello everyone!
My name is Mark Linnebur and I am the band director at Resurrection Catholic School. I’m a recent graduate of the Wichita State University School of Music, less recently, a graduate of Bishop Carroll Catholic High School, and even less recently, a graduate of Saint Peter Schulte Catholic School. I’ve been making music for 18 years, and have been playing trumpet for 11 of those. It is my honor and pleasure to teach band in the Catholic Schools.
I am starting band programs all around the east side of the Diocese of Wichita in order to build a rich tradition of making instrumental music in our Catholic community. The Band class at Resurrection Catholic School will focus on building a community of music makers in a wind and percussion ensemble setting. Beginning Band students this year will learn to play instruments that fit within this setting, including flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and a variety of percussion instruments. Playing an instrument in an ensemble involves reading music (pitch, rhythm, style, and dynamics), learning foreign vocabulary (mostly Italian), listening to the sound of others, fine motor skills (not just fingerings on the instrument, but also the mouth shape to make a good sound!), and making creative interpretive decisions from the music in front of them.
My plan is for the students to perform in two concerts this year: one for Christmas and one during the Spring. This is also my plan for all the schools in which I am teaching, so dates and times are to be determined.
