High School Catholic Youth Ministry (HS CYM) is important to the youth of our parish here at Church of the Resurrection – it provides our students with opportunities to grow in their faith through spiritual activities like Eucharistic Adoration and grow in their relationships and friendships with each other through fun, faith-filled activities. HS CYN events occur on the Second Wednesday of each month - all high school students are invited to attend. Fr. Labenz - 316-744-2776

We meet once a month on Friday evenings for fun games and activities with prayers and spiritual activities as well. Scouting at Resurrection is part of the White Buffalo District within Quivira Council. There are several opportunities for achievement and success provided to these Scouts so they can grow into the very best versions of themselves. Cubs meet as a Pack on the 4th Monday of the month and their individual Dens meet on 2 Mondays during the month. The Troop meets weekly on Tuesdays and generally goes camping once per month. Both programs are full of fun, hands-on learning opportunities and experiences. Cub Scouting (K - 5th Grade) helps develop a sense of belonging, confidence, and self-esteem that Scouts carry with them through life. In Cub Scouting, we always encourage our Scouts to DO YOUR BEST - it is our motto. Scouting BSA (6th - High School) provides resources, tools, and experiences needed to help each Scout learn, grow, and develop into independent, community engaged, and service-oriented leaders. At this level, Scouts learn to lead their own activities. Our Scouting BSA motto is to BE PREPARED - and that is exactly what these Scouts will learn to be. Religious Emblems: In addition to all the other fun and exciting things that Scouts will learn, see, and do, there are Religious programs built within the Scouting program. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a Montessori based catechism program for students Pre-K through third grade. 3-6 year olds enter the mystery of the Eucharist by first learning the names of the articles used on the altar and the gestures that accompany them. Through these experiences, the child becomes acquainted with the historical character of the liturgy through the events of the Last Supper, Christ’s death, and His resurrection. Elementary age children come to better know their relationship with God, family, friends, and the larger community. Parables offer a model for comparing their behavior with that of the Pharisee, the Tax Collector, or the Good Samaritan. They come to see the parts of the Mass—the Liturgy of the Word, the Preparation of the Gifts, the Eucharistic Prayer, and the Communion—as one unified prayer made up of many smaller prayers. Children preparing for First Communion are led in communion meditations focusing on their relationship with Jesus. They then create personal prayer missals which help to deepen their love and understanding of the Eucharist. We are always in need of volunteers in the classroom, or to help make/paint materials for the children. Anne-Marie Thompson – 316-518-5566
