In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God - John 1:1

The lector is instituted to proclaim the readings from Sacred Scripture, with the exception of the Gospel. The Lector may also announce the intentions for the Universal Prayer and, in the absence of a psalmist, recite the Psalm between the readings (GIRM 99). The responsibility of proclaiming God's Word for the Christian assembly is a humbling and deeply rewarding experience.
